India’s energy transition is one of the most ambitious in the world. As the nation rapidly shifts away from fossil fuels and towards clean, renewable alternatives, infrastructure becomes the backbone of this transformation—especially transmission infrastructure that connects power generation sites to end users.
Two key government-led initiatives—the Renewable Energy Development Zones (REDZs) and the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charge waivers—are central to enabling this clean energy expansion.
This blog explores these frameworks, their impact, and how Ecoepicsolar Private Limited is leveraging them to drive grassroots adoption.
REDZs are specially designated geographical areas chosen for large-scale renewable energy projects. Selection is based on:
These zones help centralize planning, simplify clearances, and enhance investor appeal. Recent mapping by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and MNRE identified REDZs across Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu—targeting over 50 GW capacity in five years.
Ecoepicsolar has identified REDZs for hybrid solar + battery microgrid deployment. In one project in Rajasthan, we powered 100+ homes and public buildings using a demonstration microgrid integrated with lithium storage and IoT control.
ISTS charges were a major financial barrier for transmitting renewable energy across states. To overcome this, MNRE introduced 25-year ISTS charge waivers for new solar, wind, hybrid, and green hydrogen projects. This makes large-scale projects more commercially viable by reducing landed costs.
When implemented together, REDZs and ISTS waivers:
At Ecoepicsolar Private Limited, we align with national clean energy goals by creating grassroots solutions. We’ve partnered with PSUs and DISCOMs to:
Through the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ), we also train youth in REDZs as certified solar technicians—fostering employment and local ownership.
Ecoepicsolar isn’t just focused on commercial projects. We are committed to:
Though small in size, our speed, innovation, and grassroots presence make us a dependable partner for PSUs and a champion for community-first solar deployment.
India’s clean energy revolution is a patchwork of collective efforts. Every microgrid, every rooftop, every REDZ initiative plays a part. At Ecoepicsolar, we view each project as more than an assignment—it is a promise toward a self-reliant, greener India.
Whether it’s a rural belt electrified by a solar microgrid or a REDZ-powered hybrid cluster, our mission is rooted in a simple philosophy: “Future Energy is in Your Hand.”
And with continued collaboration between industry, government, and citizens—we’re turning that future into reality, one step at a time.
